Ukrainian authorities decided to start mandatory evacuation from the Donetsk region

Ukraine has decided to introduce mandatory evacuation of the population from the part of the Donetsk region controlled by Kyiv, Deputy Prime Minister — Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories Irina Vereshchuk.

According to her, there will be no heating in the region in winter, since there is “absolutely no gas supply”; and “there is no proper power supply.” Vereshchuk referred to Art. 33 of the Code of Civil Protection of Ukraine, according to which the mandatory evacuation of the population is carried out, in particular, in the event of an armed conflict in a particular territory.

Vereshchuk estimated the number of residents who would have to be evacuated from the region at least 200-220 thousand. Ukrainians will be able to refuse to leave the Donetsk region by signing a document stating that “they understand and are aware of all the consequences and bear personal responsibility for their lives,” said Vice -premier.

She added that the next region for evacuation is probably the Zaporozhye region, in the territory of 65% of which there is no gas supply. Part of the region is controlled by Russian troops, but its administrative center is controlled by Kyiv.

Since February 24, Russia has been conducting a special “demilitarization and denazification” operation in Ukraine. One of its goals the authorities called “protecting the population of Donbass from genocide by the Kyiv regime.” In April, the Ministry of Defense announced the start of the second stage of the special operation, during which the military expects to take control of the Donbass. The fighting in the region continues, the allied troops occupied several settlements.

On July 28, Vereshchuk called on the residents of the Donetsk region to evacuate to safer areas of Ukraine so as not to be left without electricity, water, heat, communications, food and medicine. The Deputy Prime Minister headed the coordination headquarters, which will organize the evacuation from the Donetsk region. The Ministry for the Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine stated that the region is “on the verge of a humanitarian catastrophe.”
